About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Manchester United secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford. The result was largely expected given United's superior form and league position, but the match was not without its challenges for the home side. Crystal Palace took an early lead in the 4th minute through Maxence Lacroix (GAP +1.4%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse to score. However, Lacroix's afternoon took a turn for the worse when he received a red card in the 56th minute, leaving Palace to play with ten men for the remainder of the match. Manchester United responded in the second half with Bruno Fernandes (GAP +3.4%) equalizing in the 57th minute. The Portuguese midfielder's goal was a testament to his influence on the game, as he orchestrated much of United's attacking play. Benjamin Šeško (GAP +0.5%) then put United ahead in the 65th minute, securing the win with a well-taken goal. In terms of lineup changes, Manchester United made one adjustment from their previous match, bringing in Benjamin Šeško for Amad Diallo. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, made three changes, with Daichi Kamada, Maxence Lacroix, and Brennan Johnson coming into the starting lineup, replacing Will Hughes, Yéremy Pino, and Chadi Riad. The reasons for these changes were not specified in the available data. Key performances included Bryan Mbeumo (GAP +4.6%) and Daniel Muñoz (GAP +4.8%) for Crystal Palace, who both contributed significantly despite the team's defeat. For United, Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro (GAP +3.2%) were instrumental in controlling the midfield and driving the team forward. This victory keeps Manchester United firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish, bolstering their position in the league table. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly as they continue to battle in the lower half of the table. The red card for Lacroix will be a concern for Palace's head coach as they look to stabilize their defense in upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
